LibreOffice is a free-open source Office-suite software alternative to Microsoft Office，MS Office免费开源代替软件. It's actually similar with OpenOffice.
However, MS Office is an expensive software that has discouraged many people to buy original.
LibreOffice had developed over fear by The Document Foundation(TDF). The Document Foundation was created by former OpenOffice community.
LibreOffice code engine was based on OpenOffice 3.3 beta version. It means LibreOffice is the fork from OpenOffice.
Presently, OpenOffice is developed by Oracle, while LibreOffice is developed by TDF, and supported by Canonical, Google, Novell, Red Hat , and etc.

Apart from MS Office and OpenOffice, you can try LibreOffice in your system. It's because LibreOffice is a legal software, free of charge and open source.
I have try out LibreOffice for doing my homework, no problem found. In my opinion, LibreOffice shows no different GUI design with OpenOffice. But LibreOffice has more features than OpenOffice.
